Day 2 – Exploring Puerto de la Cruz
After our busy travel day yesterday, we started the morning a little more gently with a hearty breakfast at the hotel buffet — there was certainly something for everyone.
As we planned a picnic lunch for the day, half the group accompanied Señorita Pérez to a local supermercado to buy supplies while the rest of us enjoyed the hotel’s heated swimming pool. Señor Brown quickly became the master of games, encouraging pupils to use as much Spanish as possible while playing. Swimming races were started with enthusiastic calls of “¡Preparados, listos, ya!” (Ready, steady, go!)
Although the morning began a little drizzly, the sunshine appeared just in time for our picnic lunch. In the afternoon we visited a nearby beach with striking volcanic black sand. Pupils were fascinated watching the powerful Atlantic waves crash against the shore and took every opportunity to take photos of the landscape and their peers, making memories of their time together.
We continued into Puerto de la Cruz, learning a little about the town’s history before finishing our walk with a well-earned ice cream.
After dinner we had a special celebration — it was Señor Brown’s birthday! Pupils surprised him with cake and a joyful rendition of “Feliz cumpleaños.” The evening ended with the hotel’s kids’ disco, where pupils enjoyed dancing, organised games and plenty of balloon shenanigans — a perfect way to finish a fantastic day before heading to bed ready for tomorrow’s visit to our partner school.
We look forward to updating you tomorrow with all we have learned and experienced!
